Goals for the Girls!

The Year 5 girls competed in the local schools Year 5 and 6 Football Tournament on Tuesday 25th June... and they did incredibly well!

In the group stages they beat RAA 3-0, Furzefield 2-0, Earlswood 3-0 and they lost late on to St. Matthews 2-1. This excellent run of results meant that they got through to the semi-finals. They played a very determined Earlswood side, but we put in 100% again and we beat them 4-1! This set us up for a meeting in the final with St. Matthews. After playing 5 games on a very humid day, the girls battled on and took an early lead in the final, but by half time it was 1-1. In the second half, a display of courage and grit saw them take another lead to make it 2-1, but again a tough St. Matthews side drew level. With 20 seconds left the girls pushed forward and were unfortunate not to score and with 10 seconds left on the clock St. Matthews struck making the final score 3-2.
The Year 5 girls received their well earned silver medals and should be very proud of themselves to get to the final of a Year 5 and 6 (!!) tournament. It was wonderful to see the school values - courage, resilience, cooperation and responsibility - on full display. Bring on next year!
