Match of the Day!

The last few weeks have been a busy time for the boys year 5&6 football team.  We have played two league games and took part in the district tournament.
The first league game was away to Reigate Parish in what can only be described as a learning curve. Although we lost, I don’t think the opposition, if we had played to our potential and what I know we can do, would have had the easy win they gained. Maybe we just had that Friday feeling!
Tuesday 16th November -  tournament at Sandcross
There was great excitement from the boys to be going out of school for the day to just play football.
We had been drawn in a group with some big schools who have plenty of players to choose from. This didn’t matter to us as we hit the pitch showing all of our school values.  Our defence was resilient throughout the day with some outstanding saves being made.    All the boys showed great courage to get back out there and play all day finishing off playing 7 games.
The boys played great football in each game working for each other and showing a great desire to play for the school badge.
We didn’t quite make the cup completion losing out on goals scored. We entered the plate, playing local rivals Merstham Primary and secured a win to take us to the final.  Unfortunately although we controlled most of the game we couldn’t make the break through with St. John’s sneaking a goal to take the winners medals.
V Reigate Priory 0-0
V Wray Common 0-3
V Reigate Parish 0-0
V Salfords 2-2
V Sandcross 1-0
V Merstham Primary 2-0
V St Johns 0-1
All our boys were player of the tournament for me and showed great cooperation working together.
Tuesday 23rd November - away, Salfords League
This was our last game of 2021.  We travelled to Salfords who held us to a draw in the tournament.
This time we got playing early and controlled the game with some great pass and move football. At half time we were 5-1 up!  The football was very enjoyable to watch, with fast paced pass and move, along with some solid defensive work.
In the second half we carried on working hard, playing some nice passing football with some clinical finishing in front of goal, making the final score 9-2.
We would like to say a massive thank you to all the parents who have come along to watch these games.
We hope the boys enjoy the football break and look forward to hopefully returning triumphant in the new year for our remaining 3 games.
