Religious Education

At Lime Tree Primary School, Religious Education is a meaningful and engaging part of the broad curriculum, which aims to help the children with their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development in order to prepare them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of the present and the future.

In Britain, the government states that Religious Education is to be 'wholly or mainly of a broadly Christian character'. In adhering to our legal requirements, we follow the Surrey Agreed Syllabus and throughout the teaching of Religious Education we draw from a variety of religions and viewpoints, as appropriate, to acknowledge the beliefs of the children within the class and the curriculum requirements.

Religious Education for Reception children is very much a celebration of their world and why it is special, as well as looking at and celebrating events that have meaning for them. In KS1, the children explore Christianity, Judaism and Islam. In KS2, the children explore Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism and Sikhism. Throughout their learning of all religions, the children learn to understand and accept the beliefs of others, whilst also making connections to their own lives and experiences.
