Reception Long Term Plan 2023/24
The Foundation Stage Curriculum is made up of seven areas of learning and development. These are divided into three prime areas and four specific areas.
The three prime areas are:
- Communication and Language
- Personal, Social and Emotional development
- Physical development
These are then supported by specific areas that strengthen the prime areas. The specific areas are:
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
Development in the prime areas enables the children to go on and master the skills within the specific areas.
The children enjoy many new and wonderful experiences from day to day as they learn and explore these different areas of development in their stimulating and educational environment.
Topics will change regularly based on children’s interests and needs. Weekly newsletters will help to inform you of learning.
Below are examples of possible lines of enquiry in Reception.

What happens when I fall sleep? It's getting dark out and lots of things happen whilst we are sleeping. We will take a look through the telescope to see the moon, the stars and even some fireworks!

Where am I hiding? We will trek into the jungle to discover where animals are hiding. Looking for animals that should and shouldn't be there! We will use technical vocabulary to describe the differences between the jungle animals and our pets at home.

Who will read me a story? We will climb the beanstalk, hunt down the wolf and follow the breadcrumbs to the gingerbread house on our journey to find out about traditional tales.
|
|
Who is on the farm today? What does a tadpole look like when it grows up? What will hatch out of the egg? We will take a trip to the farm to help us find the answers to our questions all about lifecycles.

Under the Sea We're travelling this way, that way, forwards and backwards over the salty seas! What is in the ocean? Could it be a fish or a shell? The rainbow fish will remind us how important it is to be a good friend.
