French
French is taught at Lime Tree Primary School to give children early confidence in communicating beyond their first language and to open their eyes to a wider world. At Lime Tree, we believe that learning a modern foreign language at a young age strengthens listening skills, builds memory, and encourages curiosity about different cultures. It also lays strong foundations for future language learning in secondary school, where pupils can build on the vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammatical awareness they have already developed.
French at our school is taught through the Rigolo scheme, which brings language learning to life through stories, songs, and engaging characters that help children develop confidence and enjoyment in speaking another language. The approach provides clear progression, authentic pronunciation from native speakers, and a rich mix of interactive activities that make French accessible to all learners.
This aligns closely with the National Curriculum for Key Stage 2, which requires pupils to learn a modern foreign language and develop skills in listening, speaking, reading, writing, and understanding basic grammar. Through Rigolo, children build these foundations in a fun, structured, and culturally enriching way that prepares them for further language learning in secondary school.
